I recently became a member of both the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) as well as the STL Press Club. As a member to these journalist organizations, I recieve weekly news updates, newsletters, information about scholarships and internships and tips on how to better myself as a journalist. I highly recommend any person interested in making a career in the media to join SPJ and any local press club within their home town. They are amazingly helpful tools that you should take advantage of.
I was going through some of my old emails from SPJ tonight and came across a blog that posted a list of things college journalists should do before you graduate. As a college journalist, I can say it is really overwhelming to think about how I’m going to make it out in the world once I graduate. People continuously tell me things that are good to do to ensure a job, and much of that advice is on this list. It’s a lot easier to manage when it’s all collected in one cohesive list for you though. It’s a nice to-do list, so I recommend printing it off and crossing out things when you’ve successfully completed them.
Hope this helps!
